Classes for cheerleading, flag football, soccer, girls’ lacrosse, aquatic sports

LOS ANGELES (Aug. 26, 2024) – The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation (LA County Parks) is excited to announce that registration is open for its fall youth sports classes, available for just $25. Cheerleading, flag football, soccer, aquatics (swim team, diving, artistic swimming) and girls lacrosse will be held at various sites across the county.

LA County Parks continues to offer aquatic sports at its six year-round aquatic centers: Jesse Owens Pool, Belvedere Aquatics Center, San Fernando Recreation Park and Aquatic Center, Castaic Aquatic Center, El Cariso Regional Park Pool, and Victoria Community Regional Park Pool. The swim team practices Monday through Friday, while diving classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and artistic swimming on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please note that the seasonal pool season has concluded.

“After experiencing the thrill of the 2024 Summer Olympics and ParaOlympics, it is a good reminder that many of these youth athletes started at their local parks. I am grateful to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for their investment in making youth sports affordable, accessible and inclusive for all youth,” said Norma Edith García-Gonzalez, Director of LA County Parks. “Our goal is to create opportunities for youth to make connections with nurturing coaches, build friendships, learn new skills, and enjoy the benefits of participating in organized sports.”

Parents and guardians are encouraged to register their children early, as spots are limited and expected to fill up quickly. These programs cater to players of all skill levels, and participants will receive uniforms and trophies. The classes will run from October through December.
