Bryson Fire Evacuation Warnings and Orders Lifted

Red Flag Warning for LA County expired based on improved conditions

All evacuation warnings and orders for the Bryson Fire have been lifted with two zones—KAN-U017 and SYC-U016-A—downgraded to advisories, which means residents in those zones should stay alert and ready to evacuate if conditions change. Firefighters are continuing to work across the 146-acre fire footprint to extinguish all hot spots and work toward 100% containment.

The National Weather Service’s Red Flag Warning expired as of 6 p.m. this evening based on improved conditions, signaling less immediate fire risk. All roads closed in response to the Bryson Fire have been reopened to the public, including Topanga Canyon Boulevard. Residents can always monitor road closures across LA County at pw.lacounty.gov/roadclosures.

Planned power outages are being canceled and utilities are working to restore power to sites shut down yesterday to limit the risk of fire. Residents countywide can check in with their local power provider for information on Public Safety Power Shutoffs and to sign up for notifications.

The Los Angeles County Probation Department has determined it is safe for the 38 female and gender-expansive youth who were temporarily relocated to Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall to return to Campus Vernon Kilpatrick. Staff are coordinating their return with the same focus on safety, care and support. The Department will advise parents and stakeholders once the relocation has been completed.

The shelter established at Agoura High School to support Malibu residents has been closed. The large animal shelter at Pierce College has also closed and the Agoura Animal Care Center has returned to regular operating hours.

There were no reports of structures lost or damaged and only minor injuries to fire personnel from the Bryson Fire that started Thursday, October 15 at about 4:41 p.m. near Encinal Canyon Road. Emergency personnel were pre-deployed across the County to respond given the Red Flag Warning and more than 414 emergency personnel were assigned to the Bryson Fire at the height of the response.

To be prepared for any and all emergencies, Los Angeles County urges residents to register for alerts at Alert LA County and their city emergency notification systems. Residents can look up their evacuation zone at protect.genasys.com or in the Genasys mobile app.
