The County of Los Angeles and Mayor Eric Garcetti today welcomed the release of the Just Transition Strategy – a first-ever framework for creating a pathway for workers in oil drilling to find new employment as the City and County begin phasing out oil extraction in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger and the Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) with leaders from the State of California Employment Development Department and JVS SoCal celebrated the re-opening of LA County’s newly redesigned America’s Job Center of California (AJCC) in the Antelope Valley. DEO is reopening this Job Center serving the Antelope Valley community following extensive renovations and enhancements, with the goal of connecting residents to quality jobs and supporting post-pandemic economic recovery.  

A non-denominational interfaith virtual burial ceremony was held today by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, L.A. County Department of Health Services, Department of Decedent Affairs and LAC+USC Medical Center Chaplains at the Los Angeles County Crematory and Cemetery to remember and honor the unclaimed dead. Local faith leaders presided over the burial of 1624 decedents who were laid to rest in a single mass grave.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors initiated a plan on Dec. 6 to assess the County’s infrastructure in the face of the inevitable impacts of Climate Change on the region.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis and the newly created Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) joined community partners and local businesses to celebrate the relaunch of the East Los Angeles Entrepreneur Center – LA County’s one-stop small business development hub.
