Supervisors approve $144 million in Safe Clean Water Funding for Regional Water Resiliency

LOS ANGELES—The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors today awarded $144 million in Safe Clean Water funding, including 24 new infrastructure projects, 17 scientific studies, and various watershed area resources designed to increase the region’s water resiliency.

Measure W: The Safe Clean Water Program was approved by voters in 2018 to provide local, dedicated funding to increase the region’s water supply, improve water quality, enhance communities and protect public health.

The $144 million approved today by the Board of Supervisors, along with previously earmarked allocations for the next four years, will fund new and ongoing projects that:

  • Capture stormwater across 222,000 acres in 46 cities and multiple County unincorporated communities

  • Increase annual stormwater capture by an average of 56,915 acre-feet—enough water to supply more than 455,000 people for one year

  • Reduce stormwater pollution and prioritize regulatory compliance

  • Leverage nearly $542 million in additional funding from other sources, for a combined regional investment of over $1.2 billion

  • Invest over $530 million into disadvantaged communities

  • Fund 12 Watershed Coordinator positions to provide technical resources, education and connectivity across the region

  • Fund 17 scientific studies advancing the goals of the Safe Clean Water Program
