LA County Statement on Tentative Agreement with SEIU 721
Los Angeles County has reached a tentative agreement on salaries and fringe benefits with our labor partners at SEIU 721. This tentative agreement, if ratified by SEIU 721’s membership, is an important milestone that will enable us to focus our collective energy on our shared goal of serving the people of LA County. We are proud of our long-term partnership with labor and grateful for all of the hard work on both sides of the table that has gone into months of negotiations during a period of unprecedented challenges to the County budget. SEIU 721 is the County’s largest union, representing more than half of the County’s workforce.
The contract, if ratified, would run from July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2028, with the following terms:
- $5,000 one-time ratification bonus;
- 2% cost of living adjustment (COLA) and $2,000 bonus in year two (effective 10/1/26); and
- 5% COLA in year three of the contract (effective 10/1/27)
The County currently is facing massive costs to settle claims brought under AB 218, huge impacts from the January wildfires and a volatile federal funding landscape with significant threats to County funding. Funding this tentative labor agreement will require making budget cuts that will affect some programs. These sacrifices will be necessary to avoid a structural deficit as we move to provide fair compensation for our workforce in these difficult times.
LA County recognizes the vital role of our workforce in serving the millions of residents who depend on us to make their lives better—in good times and bad—and we are hopeful that SEIU 721 members will ratify this tentative agreement.
