Malibu Canyon Road Closed to Protect Motorists from Rockfall

Based on a National Weather Service forecast of rain and possible thunderstorms in local mountain areas, Los Angeles County Public Works will close public access to Malibu Canyon Rd at 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 26.

Slippery roads and the potential for falling rocks and debris can make driving mountain roads hazardous during winter storms. Malibu Canyon Road will remain closed through
5 p.m. on Monday, January 27 or until the road is declared safe for the traveling public.

Motorists are advised to avoid burn areas and mountain roads during storms, if possible.

Remember to:

  • Slow down.
  • Allow for larger following and stopping distances while driving.
  • Take turns slowly
  • Accelerate and stop gradually
  • Avoid driving into ponded or swift-moving water.
