Los Angeles County Probation Department’s Statement on Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall Court Hearing
LOS ANGELES- “Today, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Miguel Espinoza granted a continuance regarding efforts to prevent the closure of Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall. We respect and support the court’s decision to allow for a more thorough review of the recent efforts to address staffing and other issues surrounding this matter.”
“We are fully committed to ensuring public safety for our communities while addressing the challenges at Los Padrinos. Last week, the County Board of Supervisors issued an emergency declaration to helps us expedite the mobilization of county staff and use of needed resources, as well as implement immediate solutions that prioritize the safety and well-being of youth, staff, and the community. Our department has also formally requested an appeal to the Board of State and Community Corrections on their unsuitability finding, which we are awaiting response on.”
“The Probation Department is working arduously to collaborate with the court, state officials, community partners, and other stakeholders to resolve this issue in a manner that is both effective and sustainable. Our shared goal is to ensure a rehabilitative environment for justice-involved youth in our care while balancing public safety and meeting the highest standards of care.”
