DACC Response to the Franklin Fire
LOS ANGELES – As of the most recent update, the Franklin Fire has spread to 2,600 acres with 0% containment.
DACC wants to assure the public we have mobilized and are responding to the incident for animal sheltering and evacuation assistance. We stand ready to respond to this evolving emergency, with the health and safety of our pets, staff, and the communities we serve as our top priority.
“DACC is committed to protecting animals during emergencies,” said DACC Director Marcia Mayeda. “Animals are family members, and we are here to ensure they are safe until they can return to their homes. “
The Agoura Animal Care Center located at 29525 Agoura Road, Agoura, is prepared to receive small animal evacuations.
Pierce College located at 6201 Winnetka Avenue, Woodland Hills, has been activated and is staffed to assist with the sheltering of large animals.
If you are located in an evacuation warning or mandatory evacuation area, DACC urges you to plan ahead and give yourself enough time to safely leave the area, including the time to load and evacuate your animals.
The Department also urges everyone to make sure your emergency plans include your pets. You can find a list of items to put in your pet’s “go bag” at https://ready.lacounty.gov/pet-disaster-supply-kits/.
Please visit lacounty.gov/emergency for information on the Franklin Fire evacuations, shelters, and road closures. A wealth of emergency preparedness information is also available at Ready.LACounty.gov.
