District Attorney Gascón Announces Charges Against a Los Angeles Police Officer for Evidence Tampering, Petty Theft

L.A. Police Officer Alan Carrillo is charged with tampering with evidence and stealing items during multiple incidents while on duty in 2023

LOS ANGELES, CA – Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón today announced charges against Los Angeles Police Officer Alan Carrillo who allegedly tampered with evidence and stole items during traffic and pedestrian stops in the city of Los Angeles between April 2023 and June 2023.

“The public’s trust and the integrity of law enforcement are undermined when officers tamper with evidence and steal items from the public,” District Attorney Gascón said. “Police officers are entrusted with upholding justice and protecting our communities, and any breach of that trust is unacceptable. Our office is committed to holding Mr. Carrillo accountable for his actions so we can restore the public’s trust in law enforcement.”

Alan Carrillo (dob 07/17/92) is charged in case 24CJCF02528 with two counts of altering, planting, or concealing evidence, as a peace officer; and three counts of petty theft.

Carrillo is scheduled to be arraigned on a future date in Dept. 30 at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

On April 19 and June 15, 2023, Carrillo allegedly took personal items, including metal brass knuckles and knives, from individuals during pedestrian and traffic stops. Carrillo was allegedly inconsistent while documenting these items in his reports, and the taken items were never accounted for.

The allegations arise from a larger investigation into complaints concerning the conduct of officers assigned to LAPD’s Mission Area Gang Enforcement Detail.

The court has set bail at $100,000. If convicted as charged, Carrillo faces seven years and six months in prison.

The case is being investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Complaint Investigation Section, Internal Affairs Division, and Professional Standards Bureau.
