Supervisor Solis and LA General Medical Center Launched First-ever Mobile Health Clinic at a School Site

LOS ANGELES, CA – The County of Los Angeles witnessed a momentous event as the Los Angeles General Medical Center and Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis successfully inaugurated their first mobile clinic at Wilson High School in El Sereno. Aligned with their mission of “Exceptional Care for Healthy Communities,” this groundbreaking healthcare initiative aims to provide access to sports physicals, vaccinations, and screenings for all, regardless of their ability to pay.

The inauguration ceremony took place on August 18, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the Wilson High School parking lot. Community members, school officials, and healthcare professionals gathered to celebrate the opening of this transformative mobile clinic, which promises to make a lasting impact on the well-being of students.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis, a steadfast advocate for community health, expressed her pride and gratitude, stating, “The County of Los Angeles is the safety net provider for our most vulnerable residents.  In an effort to ensure that our health programming and services are directly responsive to community needs, I’m proud to launch this new mobile clinic right in the heart of our El Sereno neighborhood.  At this clinic, students will be able to access sports physicals, vaccinations, and screenings – regardless of their insurance status, which healthcare provider they’re empaneled to, or their ability to pay.  I hope that with this partnership with LAUSD can serve as a model for school-based care moving forward.”

LAUSD Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho also shared his excitement, saying, “We are so appreciative to Supervisor Solis and the Los Angeles General Medical Center for their innovative healthcare initiative and collaborative efforts in securing a mobile health clinic for the Wilson High School community, who will now be able to receive critical medical services on school grounds at no cost. Meeting student needs will always come first.”

Additionally, LAUSD Board Member Dr. Rocío Rivas praised the initiative’s impact on the community, stating, “Healthy community public schools create healthy neighborhoods. The Wilson High School mobile health clinic, made possible through the District’s partnership with Supervisor Hilda Solis and Los Angeles General Medical Center, is an investment not only in our students, but in the wider El Sereno community: no one will be turned away.” The event showcased a harmonious partnership between Los Angeles General Medical Center and Supervisor Hilda L. Solis, with LAUSD leadership endorsing the project’s significance for the community.

“The launch of this mobile clinic solidifies our commitment to making accessible healthcare a reality for our community.  The mobile clinic embodies our shared dedication to advancing the health and well-being of our students.” said Jorge Orozco, CEO for Los Angeles General Medical Center.

The successful inauguration of the mobile health clinic at Wilson High School marks a new chapter in ensuring “Exceptional Care for Healthy Communities,” empowering students and fostering a brighter and healthier future for all.
