Health and Wellness services promote the general well-being and welfare of older adults in Los Angeles County. Focusing on clinical, mental, and non-clinical services, these programs aim to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
CLINICAL SERVICES
Older adults may be eligible for medical services at outpatient clinics including Harbor-UCLA Geriatric Clinic, Harbor-UCLA Lomita Family Medicine Geriatrics Assessment Clinic, LAC+USC Geriatric Clinic, and Olive View-UCLA Geriatric Clinic.
This program collects unused and unwanted household hazardous waste, including electronic waste, from the homes of older adults and/or disabled residents.
L.A. Found provides a free tracking device for individuals with Alzheimer’s, dementia, autism or other cognitive impairments who are prone to wandering. Caregivers and family members may apply for a free tracking device and training.
This program provides comprehensive healthcare coverage to older adults with limited income.
This no-cost health program for doctor visits, emergency room visits, and prescription medications is for low-income older adults who are not eligible for any other coverage or health insurance.
This program provides older adults with needle collection and disposal.
This Division houses several programs within the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. It includes the Office of Senior Health. The Division’s website contains numerous health promotion and disease prevention resources on lifestyle modification, nutrition, physical activity, and senior health. This program provides public as well as professional resources and support to promote oral health in the community. Program priorities include prevention of dental caries, tobacco cessation, and oral health as it relates to cardiovascular disease risk reduction. The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services’ Housing for Health division provides housing and services to people with complex medical and behavioral health conditions. These programs include Enriched Residential Care (ERC), Interim Housing (with Recuperative Care and Stabilizing Housing), and Permanent Supportive Housing. NON-CLINICAL SUPPORT SERVICES
This program for older and dependent adults in low-income households provides health and safety-related services such as personal care and domestic services.

PHYSICAL FITNESS AND EXERCISE
The Department of Parks and Recreation is offering a variety of programming for older adults available in LA County Parks, including Healthy Senior Meal Programs, outdoor activities, and senior clubs.
Many Parks and Recreation facilities offer reduced fees for older adults to enjoy. Visit the link for a listing of the facilities.
There are a wide variety of trails for users of all fitness levels that offer opportunities for exercise, solitude, spiritual practices, physical and mental wellbeing, building social networks, testing athletic skills, and connecting with nature.  The trails featured in the attached list of hikes for aging adults are a collection of Los Angeles County Trails described as “Easy Hikes” that are less than 3 miles in length and with an elevation gain of less than 300 feet.  Many other trail options are available on the Trails LA County Website (www.trails.lacounty.gov) and Mobile App – the official trail guide to hundreds of miles of public trails across Los Angeles County.

MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

Administered by the LA County Department of Mental Health, this program provides support for older adults who are experiencing mental illness and may benefit from case management, crisis intervention, medication management, housing, and other social services.
This program from the LA County Department of Mental Health provides mental health assessment, treatment, and case management for older adults 60 years of age and older.
Geriatric Evaluation Networks Encompassing Services Intervention Support Programs (GENESIS)
This LA County Department of Mental Health program provides services for LA County residents who have a major mental illness or symptoms of mental illness that are adversely affecting daily functioning.
PROTECTIVE SERVICES
This service addresses complaints and concerns of residents in skilled nursing and licensed board and care facilities. For more information please call 1(800) 510-2020 or (800) 334-WISE (9473).
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department can conduct a safety and wellness check on someone not heard from or seen in a reasonable amount of time.
This is a state-mandated 24 hours, 7 days a week, social services program. APS social workers investigate and respond to allegations of abuse, neglect or self-neglect, and exploitation of older and dependent adults who live in the community. Emergency situations are responded to immediately. After investigation, a service plan is developed, with the client’s consent, to meet their unique needs. SUPPORTIVE SERVICES AND GUIDANCE
This program provides free diet and nutrition seminars designed to improve the knowledge, behaviors, and environment of culturally diverse low-income older adults who frequent Congregate Meal sites. The program also encourages active lifestyles and healthy food choices within a limited budget. We are currently offering both in-person and virtual seminars.
