A recent exhibit at the Skid Row Museum, "Dogs in the House," showcased the work of artists and organizations advocating for homeless pet owners. The multimedia works included video and audio stories of Skid Row residents talking about their pets. Following an historic $134 million lead paint settlement, the Department of Public Health is leading lead abatement efforts on eligible homes in low-income communities across the County over the next 8 years. For Boyle Heights resident Merle Guzman, removing the hazardous paint from the home she shares with her young son is a huge relief after he tested positive for lead exposure.

Making a difference is what motivates Tywon White. He overcame a troubled childhood to reach his goal of becoming an LAPD officer with help from the foster care system and a very special L.A. County social worker who made sure he kept his eye on achievement.

Keeping County streets free of illegal and illicit drugs is the focus of the Health Authority Law Enforcement Taskforce, or HALT, a multidisciplinary team of law enforcement agencies and health professionals that shut down unlicensed providers, sham operators, and underground drug channels.

When the Woolsey Fire threatened devastation of the Probation Department's Campus Kilpatrick, staff mobilized to protect the 100 juveniles housed there as flames encroached. They were among the employees honored at the department's inaugural awards ceremony.
