Los Angeles General Medical Center Earns Six High Performing Ratings from U.S. News & World Report

National recognition highlights excellence in diabetes, heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure, blood cancers and stroke

Los Angeles, CA — August 5, 2026 — Los Angeles General Medical Center has earned six High Performing ratings in U.S. News & World Report’s 2026–2027 Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions ratings.

High Performing is the highest rating awarded by U.S. News in its individual Procedures & Conditions evaluations.

LA General was recognized as High Performing in:

  • Diabetes
  • Heart Attack
  • Heart Failure
  • Kidney Failure
  • Leukemia, Lymphoma & Myeloma
  • Stroke

U.S. News evaluated nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide using measures that include risk-adjusted mortality, preventable complications and patient experience.

“These six High Performing ratings reflect the extraordinary skill, compassion and commitment our physicians, nurses and staff bring to every patient, every day,” said Jorge Orozco, Chief Executive Officer of Los Angeles General Medical Center. “As a public safety-net hospital, we care for patients with some of the most serious and complex medical needs, including patients whose needs may not be met elsewhere. This recognition affirms that every patient deserves exceptional, world-class care, regardless of insurance status, ability to pay, immigration status or life circumstances.”

As a leading public academic medical center and a cornerstone of the region’s healthcare safety net, LA General provides advanced care to patients facing complex medical and social challenges while training the next generation of physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals.

The six High Performing ratings demonstrate that clinical excellence and equitable access are not competing priorities. At LA General, they are inseparable. Advanced medicine, education and public service come together every day to provide extraordinary care for the communities that depend on the medical center most.

“This recognition is especially meaningful because of the patients we serve and the complexity of the care we provide,” said Brad Spellberg, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Los Angeles General Medical Center. “LA General demonstrates that safety-net care is world-class care.”
