Friday Deadline Nears for LA County Emergency Rent Relief Program for Past-Due Rent and Mortgage Debt
LOS ANGELES – With the January 23 application deadline approaching, the Los Angeles County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs (DCBA) is urging eligible landlords and displaced homeowners to apply for the LA County Emergency Rent Relief Program, which provides financial assistance to help cover past-due rent owed by tenants, before the final cutoff. All applications must be submitted by Friday, January 23, 2026, at 4:59 p.m. PT.
Application Support
DCBA is offering application support to assist landlords through the final days of the application period. Free in-language technical assistance is available by phone at (877) 849-0770 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. PT through Friday. Starting Monday, Jan. 26 help will be available from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Details about informational webinars and in-person assistance opportunities are available at LACountyRentRelief.com.
Tenant Profile Requirement
After a landlord submits an application, tenants are invited to complete a brief tenant profile, which is required for the application to be considered. Tenants are urged to complete this step as soon as possible so eligible landlords can be considered for assistance to cover past-due rent. The tenant profile includes only a few questions and does not request immigration status or documentation. Information provided by tenants is used solely to validate the application and is not shared with the landlord.
Directed by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and administered by DCBA in partnership with The Center by Lendistry, the Emergency Rent Relief Program will distribute more than $23 million in rental and mortgage assistance to eligible landlords. This program provides financial assistance to landlords impacted by the Palisades, Eaton, and other wildfires, as well as emergency-related financial hardships associated with federal actions. In most cases, grant awards may cover up to six months of eligible debt, with a maximum of $15,000 per rental unit. The program is intended to help stabilize housing and reduce the risk of displacement across Los Angeles County.
