LA County Public Works Urges Residents to Drive Cautiously Ahead of Forecast Storm

LOS ANGELES (Dec. 30, 2025) — Los Angeles County Public Works is urging residents and motorists to prepare ahead of a storm system forecast to impact Los Angeles County beginning Wednesday night, bringing moderate rainfall, an elevated flash flood risk, and dangerous travel conditions, particularly in recent burn areas.

The National Weather Service forecasts moderate rain from Wednesday night through Thursday morning, followed by a smaller storm system from Friday night into Saturday. The most intense impacts are expected Thursday morning. Rainfall totals are forecast to reach 1–3 inches in coastal and valley areas and 3–5 inches in foothill and mountain areas. These conditions significantly increase the risk of flash flooding, mud, and debris flows, especially in fire-impacted communities.

LA County Public Works urges motorists to avoid roads at risk of flooding, especially mountain roads near burn scar areas, due to the potential for debris flows and hazardous conditions. Because this storm follows last week’s Christmas storm, watersheds are already saturated, increasing the chance that mud, rocks, and debris will wash onto roadways. Even moderate rainfall can create dangerous travel conditions. Several road closures remain in place for public safety, and motorists are strongly encouraged to obey closures and use alternate routes.  A list of road closures can be found on pw.lacounty.gov/roadclosures/.

Residents in fire-impacted and flood-prone areas are encouraged to take protective measures, including the use of sandbags, available at the following locations:
