Department of Youth Development Statement Regarding CA Attorney General’s Call for Receivership of LA County Juvenile Halls
In light of the recent request by Attorney General Bonta to place Los Angeles County juvenile halls in receivership, DYD reaffirms that its paramount focus remains the well-being and support of youth within county facilities. Our commitment is to ensure young individuals have access to meaningful programs, services, and resources that offer a clear path to growth and healthy development. DYD will work with the CA Department of Justice monitor to ensure that DYD-supported programming remains intact under the proposed new structure. The goals of DYD and Youth Justice Reimagined remain focused on increasing equitable access to a continuum of youth development services, reducing harm for young people who are impacted by the justice system, and advancing alternatives to incarceration. We continue to be dedicated to creating an environment where all young people can access resources that nurture their growth, well-being, and connection to community.
