Statement on behalf of Los Angeles General Medical Center in response to reports of ICE on its medical campus
LA General Medical Center is the largest public hospital in Los Angeles County—operating one of the busiest Level 1 Trauma Centers and Emergency Department in the nation. As such, LA General Medical Center routinely provides emergency and specialized medical care to individuals brought in by local, state, or federal law enforcement agencies. This includes patients who may be in custody, such as those detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), when medical attention is required.
As always LA General delivers high quality care to anyone and everyone under our care, regardless of who they are or how they came into our care.
However, we want to be clear that ICE has not visited our Medical Campus as part of an ICE raid or any other immigration enforcement activity.
We understand that the mere threat of immigration enforcement near any medical facility undermines public trust and jeopardizes community health.
We believe healthcare is a human right, and we are steadfast in being a welcoming, respectful, and confidential place for all who seek our care.
