Los Angeles General Medical Center Nursing Team Honored with Excellence as a Group Award at ACNL’s 47th Annual Conference
Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles General Medical Center’s Nursing Education Department has been recognized with the Excellence as a Group Award for Professional Development at the 47th Annual Conference of the Association of California Nurse Leaders (ACNL). This prestigious award highlights the department’s outstanding contributions to advancing nursing education and professional growth.
Under the visionary leadership of Nancy Blake, Chief Nursing Officer, the Nursing Residency Program, launched in 2021, has transformed nurse onboarding at LA General Medical Center. This homegrown, six-month residency program is designed to support new graduate Registered Nurses (RNs) with less than 12 months of experience, equipping them with the skills and confidence needed to provide safe and effective patient care.
Aligned with LA General Medical Center’s mission to provide world-class care and education for all in our community, the Nursing Residency Program has made a profound impact:
- Educated 413 nurses since its inception.
- Reduced turnover rates from 22% to 8%.
- Achieved retention rates as high as 100% in recent cohorts.
“This initiative exemplifies excellence in professional development,” said Nancy Blake, CNO. “By fostering a strong foundation for new nurses, we are strengthening our workforce and ensuring high-quality patient care for our community. This unique program supports transition to practice into the clinical area with evidence-based care.”
The Excellence as a Group Award underscores LA General Medical Center’s dedication to nursing excellence and its commitment to developing the next generation of healthcare professionals.
