JCOD Celebrates Graduation of Incubation Academy’s Fifth Cohort

LOS ANGELES – The Justice Care and Opportunities Department (JCOD) celebrated the graduation of 26 new organizations today from the Incubation Academy.

Since its inception in 2021, 115 organizations have successfully completed the program. Organizations from this year’s graduating class provide essential services in the community that include housing support, healthcare services, outpatient therapy, substance abuse treatment and mentorship.

JCOD’s Incubation Academy is dedicated to supporting grassroots, non-profit organizations that serve justice-involved individuals. These organizations often face challenges in securing government contracts and funding.

“I am incredibly proud of the dedication displayed by this cohort. Completing this program is no small feat and it positions these organizations to receive the funding and support they need to continue their critical work,” said JCOD Director Judge Songhai Armstead (Ret.). “These organizations are essential to improving our communities and providing support to the justice-involved population. I hope they can take what they learned here and continue to make a lasting impact.”

The program builds the capacities of these organizations through 15 weeks of intensive training sessions and provides a year of ongoing support, including technical assistance and peer advising.

To date, graduates from the first four cohorts have received more than $32 million in combined capacity-building and Care First Community Investment grants, significantly enhancing their ability to serve the community.

The next cohort of Incubation Academy participants is set to begin in July 2024. Organizations interested in participating are encouraged to apply on a rolling basis. Applications and additional information about the Incubation Academy can be found on JCOD’s website at: https://jcod.lacounty.gov/incubationacademy.
