LA County Earns 96 National Awards for Innovation and Public Service

The National Association of Counties (NACo) announced the recipients of its 2023 Achievement Awards, with Los Angeles County recognized with 96 awards for outstanding programs in support of residents and communities.

Leading the way with Best in Category recognition was the County’s Anti-Racism, Diversity and Inclusion (ARDI) Initiative, which was honored for its equitable administration of the County’s $1.9 billion American Rescue Plan allocation. These efforts focused on ensuring delivery of services and providing recovery support to benefit communities heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Other NACo achievement awards recognized the County’s work in caring for 10,000 unaccompanied immigrant children at an emergency intake site at the Fairplex in Pomona—an effort that resulted in more than 8,000 children being reunited with families and loved ones in the United States.

Also recognized were programs to help County voters, including the Plan Your Vote tool and a Voting Safely At Home program for management of safe elections during the pandemic; programs to lend tools and distribute free diapers and menstrual products at County libraries; a Safer at Home program to provide patients with concierge medicine and home-based care in lieu of hospital stays; and programs to alleviate poverty, capture and treat stormwater, and even bring voice-activated devices into the homes of older adults to help them stay connected with friends and family.
